Musical direction

Students are encouraged to explore repertoire from across the classical tradition, including composers alongside music chosen to suit individual interests and abilities.

The emphasis is always on developing independence, confidence, and enjoyment in music-making.

A supportive learning environment

Lessons focus on:

  • building secure technique without strain

  • understanding musical structure and character

  • developing expressive tone

  • improving practice methods

  • strengthening confidence at the instrument

Above all, the goal is to help students experience music as something living and meaningful — not simply something to be played correctly.

Piano Lessons

Musical understanding, physical ease, and expressive freedom

Teaching has been an important part of my musical life for many years. My aim is to help each student develop not only technical confidence at the piano, but a deeper relationship with music itself.

Lessons are shaped around the individual student — their experience, interests, and musical goals — whether they are beginners, returning players, or more advanced pianists seeking greater refinement and confidence.

An integrated approach

My teaching combines:

  • technical clarity

  • musical imagination

  • careful listening

  • and physical awareness at the instrument

A long engagement with the Alexander Technique informs my work with students, helping them develop freedom of movement, coordination, and ease while playing. This often leads to improved tone, greater confidence, and more natural musical expression.

Rather than forcing results, the aim is to remove unnecessary effort and allow the music to emerge more naturally

Who lessons are especially suited to

Lessons are suitable for:

  • adult beginners

  • returning pianists

  • intermediate students

  • advanced players seeking greater ease, confidence and musical depth

  • students preparing for performances or exams

Many adult students particularly value a thoughtful and supportive learning environment in which progress can unfold at a natural pace.
